Two reasons why people should store their large designer handbag collections in storage units

Here are two reasons why people who have large designer handbag collections should store their collections in storage units.

The handbags are less likely to be stolen

Given that, for most people, building up a collection of expensive designer handbags takes years and often involves jumping through a lot of hoops (such as joining waiting lists or developing a long-term professional relationship with one of a brand's sales associates) and spending a lot of money, it is essential for those who have amassed these collections to take steps to protect their handbags from thieves. Designer handbags are very valuable and sought after, and can, in some instances, be even more valuable when they're secondhand. Because of this, they're the type of item that most thieves would leap at the chance of stealing.

If a person has dozens of designer handbags and is currently storing them in their home, there is a much greater chance that these bags will be stolen than if they kept them in a storage unit. The first reason for this is that most storage facilities are monitored by security guards 24 hours a day; these professionals are trained on the most effective ways to deter and deal with intruders, to prevent them from accessing the storage units. Conversely, if a person's handbag collection is in their home, there are bound to be periods of several hours each day or week, when their home is completely unoccupied and a thief could break in and access their collection without being interrupted.

The second reason is that most storage units and the premises in which they're located are incredibly secure. Not only do these units have robust locks and sturdy doors that the average thief wouldn't be able to open, but the premises also usually have monitored security cameras, as well as other features designed to deter intruders, such as loud alarms and sensor lights. In combination with the presence of the security team, these features make it incredibly difficult for any thieves to steal items from the storage units. If a person's home doesn't have these high-tech features, they would be better off keeping their designer handbags in a storage unit.

The handbags will be more likely to stay in good condition and potentially increase in value

One of the reasons some people choose to collect designer handbags is that they can often go up in value after several years, at which point the owners can then make a profit by selling them. However, this is only true in instances where the handbags are in good condition.

One way that a person can keep their collection in excellent condition is by leaving it in a storage unit. In a typical unit, there will be very little dust (due to the unit being windowless and its door being closed the vast majority of the time) that could settle on the bags and get embedded into their crevices. Additionally, storage facilities are extremely vigilant regarding pests and so there is virtually no chance of, for example, mice chewing on and destroying any of the handbags. Lastly, because the units are consistently ventilated and completely dry, the handbags are unlikely to get mouldy or become musty-smelling.
